Patchwork Vincent

Ever in need of a creative play day..?
Well this journal page is just that.

Some of you may know I have a love for all that's Vincent.

Such a misunderstood and underestimated Artist,
if he had lived in this day there would have been a lot
more people to listen and guide him through his tormented journey.

*Here's my patchwork Vincent with a few close ups of the process..*

It all started like this on Wednesday, a found Art Journal
with another unfinished page.. Time to play!

The heat wave has been playing havoc with some of my art materials but these
neocolors II's can take it even though they look as if they have seen better days.

As do these very old neocolors which I inherited a few months back.
Just needed to scratch through the surface to find their colour... there it is..!

Not sure these Dina Wakley birds work as crows.
Knew I should have just hand drawn them.

A little mix of modelling paste works a treat
for adding small amounts of colour and texture.

Strips of Van Gogh Washi and a found sticker or two adds interest
and is a reminder that I still have plenty of this Washi left to use...
..if I can remember where I have tidied it...

My patchwork Vincent page is complete, or is it??

I think there's still plenty of space to sketch in more snippets
of those greats and I really do need to sort out those crows!

Thanks for stopping by..

Wishing you a Fantastic Friday
and a creative weekend.

Hugs Tracey xx

Your Van Gogh inspired landscape is GORGEOUS! I love his use of line, so I did a study of one of his many self-portraits in my art journal a couple of years ago. Happy PPF and blessings!

OK Tracey, you and I are definitely on the same wavelength. I simply adore this. I love the Starry Night (did you know there were two different paintings he named that?) and the Crows Over the Cornfield, which affected me in ways I couldn't believe the first time I saw it. I bought it on canvas and love it dearly, now.

You are right that this poor man was so misunderstood. We have ways to help people with his "condition" today, but in those days he was simply misunderstood.

I LOVE this, as I suspect you can tell, but I love it even more that you shared it with us at Art Journal Journey.

And since I don't want to miss another wonderful post from you, I would LOVE to add you to my left sidebar. But I will only do so with your approval.

A fantastic Vincent piece, Tracey- you really hit the style, and your neocolors brings his vibrant tones to your artwork, too. Love your patchwork idea, and I`m sure you could have done the craws much better yourself :-)
Have a lovely Friday evening my friend-

I think you have done Vincent Van Gogh proud with this fabulous page Tracey, the starry sky is amazing, the strokes and colours are so beautiful. I am more of a Kandinsky fan but I do love VVG's style too and look forward to seeing more of your projects featuring him. Hugs, Anne xx

This is just brilliant Tracey! Earlier this year I went to the National Gallery to see the Monet exhibition, while I was there I made sure to visit Van Gogh’s Sunflowers and chair! It is amazing to see all these works or art close up and see the strokes from the brushes they held. Claude Monet, and John Constable are my favourites xx oh and may I ask where you found the lovely Van Gogh Washi ? Xx

Thank you so much Elizabeth, I know there are lots of mixed feeling regarding Vincent some regarding his style but many regarding the image that has been painted of him but his vision to create an artist community within his little yellow house to me is an inspiration in itself.
I'm so touched by your words and would be honoured to be part of your create journey too xx Thank you.

Oh Tracey, 'gob smacked' is the only way to describe what I felt when I first saw this! I too love Vincent's art - confess to crying when I saw an exhibition in Paris! I was thinking as I was reading your post that I would like to add you to my side bar when I get home and scrolling down to the comment box see that Elizabeth is also of the same mind! I love how the neo- colour IIs have blended here - I am becoming quite addicted to different crayons at the moment!Thank you so much for linking to my theme at Art Journal Journey! Have a great weekend! Hugs,Chrisx

Well... I can't say that I am a huge VVG fan, but I can totally appreciate his work, with his very definitive style. I once watched a documentary of his life... so sad!!!. Tracey you have captured Van Gogh's style wonderfully in your homage to him with the many brush/paint strokes, the starry sky is fabulous and your take on his work is amazing!!!. Xxx

Once in school we mixed tempera paint with some sort of laundry soap to make this super thick paste to recreate this very scene. That was fun, but not successful, as the paint chipped right off... :( But your result is truly remarkable. I would totally frame this for the hall. :) Hugs, Autumn
