Winter's Day..

*Happy New Year from all at Paperbabe*

Today see's a new challenge over on the Paperbabe blog
with the theme being *Anything Goes #64*

My piece was inspired by the snow fall we had over the Festive Season
a scene we only seem to see on Christmas cards during winter time now.

Here is my Winter's Day How to do's..

Using a sheet of 10 x 7 watercolour card I sketched around the main standard
Flick & Fringe hair template placing the small face template in the centre and
drawing around it along with the torso included in the template set.

The markings for the facial features are all marked out on the Face templates
making it easy for you to trace the lines and stamp those features in. I moved the
fringe template down to slightly cover the eyes and traced the outline on.

Using water-soluble wax pastels I first laid down the skin tone colours,
building up the surrounding areas with colour and shade activating it all with water.

White Gesso helped to cover up any stamped areas I no longer required.
Hiding the eyebrows now gave me a full fringe to work with again using
water-soluble wax pastels along with water-resistant pencils to add the finer detail.

Inking through the herringbone stencil added interest to her garment.

Snowflakes from the Peaceful Flurries set have been stamped and embossed on the
background with gel paste pushed through the mini dots stencil randomly across the page.

adding dimensional dots almost replicates snowfall.

Mounted onto black card my page was edged with machine stitching.

Peaceful Flurries substrates were stamped and embossed using their sister Peaceful Flurries stamps and adhered to the page adding a button or two for embellishment .

My Winter's Day portrait is complete.

She is AMAZING! A really beautiful girl and I love the texture you have added!
Happy start of the weekend.
Beautiful snow was this - we have such warm temperatures today that it feels like spring is already here.
I wouldn't mind when spring would start right now - but I fear it won't!

Happy weekend to you dear friend. No snow here yet , just a tiny bit would be nice :-) Hugs from Dothe xoxo

Your Winter's Day portrait is stunning Tracey! I love the detail you added to her dress, her face and hair are so beautifully coloured and I just love her eyes!! The snowfall is a lovely touch too, you really did bring her to life.

Really happy you like her Susi.. It was very calming to look out on the snow we had but it causes chaos in the UK. As soon as Christmas is gone I too am guilty of trying to hurry Winter along but know that it's a time when nature takes a well earned rest xx

Oh how very clever! Never heard of those Paperbabe templates (where have I been lol) but that face is so expressive! Love also what you did to add interest to her clothing, and the background elements are wonderful too!!

Tracey@Hotchpotchcreations said...

Thank you Astrid, the templates really are super. Even if you are able to draw they are a magnificent aid giving a great outline to put your own mark on. The facial stamps work in the same way, giving us the perfect guide with the outlines given. The limits to what you can create are endless.. xx

Thank you Alison, to some it may not seem necessary but I think at times it may give encouragement as with portraiture we can give up on our pieces when we don't see what we hoped in the beginning.. It's worth carrying on! xx
