Good Morning Creative Friends..
I'd not planned on sharing this piece but as today is Remembrance Sunday
and the Centenary of the end of the First world War it seemed appropriate.
Inspired by the book Warhorse, I introduced those modern mechanical
workings from the stage show into my Horse study using glue and
gave the Horse a watercolour wash when the glue began to dry.
The journal background was created using structure paste, old brown paper
and seed beads I'd rescued from a broken vintage necklace.
With those raised glue areas dry and highlighted with metallic pen,
I tried to capture the silhouette of Soldiers along the horizon within the eye..
Painted and layered scraps of paper form the Head collar,
with brads and punched holes added for extra detail.
Brown paper, ribbon and twine give dimension to the Horse mane
graced with one single poppy OUR Symbol of remembrance.
Written words are just one paragraph taken from *For the Fallen*
written by Laurence Binyan and one I think most have heard before.
For the past, present and future
We WILL Remember them...

I was overwhelmed by this, Tracey. I loved the soldiers in the horse's eye, and the cross, too. I also loved the poppy. But the head collar on the horse, I was SURE was leather until I read otherwise. It was so well done. The poem was perfect, and this is an absolutely amazing piece for Remembrance Day. It is also a moving tribute to the people who died in that war. I'm so delighted you chose to share it with us at Art Journal Journey, too.

Tracey, I am in awe of your talent, this piece is phenomenal - and so moving! So many emotions. My Dad and his two Brothers fought in WW2, each one in a different area of the military and we were so fortunate that they all came home safely, when so many did not. This is such a beautiful tribute to the armed forces - the soldiers in the eye of the horse - just incredible.... Hugs, Anne xxx

Soldiers and a cross over a grave.. such faithful horses must've seen much sorrowful scenes.
The Aussie diggers who were lighthorsemen had their own Aussie breed shipped over.
After the war some of them chose to shoot their best friend, their faithful steed, rather than leave it to run wild and prob neglect in Turkey amd other such uncertain locations.
My grandfather was a lighthorseman but born too late for WW1 (1908).

Oh my word....tracey, the reflection in the horses eye is so emotive, such a fabulous idea, what a wonderful tribute to the fallen, absolutely beautiful work of art. It was an emotional day, we went to the war memorial in our town, a beautiful and heart wrenching service, the rain was lashing down all morning, but amazingly, on the eleventh hour, it stopped, the sun came out, and so did a rainbow!!!!. Hope all is well lovely lady. Xxx

What an extraordinary tribute, Tracey. Your horse is magnificent, with that streaming mane and the moving reflection in his eye. The rugged textures of the background are so clever to capture the grinding mud of the bleak landscape. Amazing, powerful work.
