A Stitch in Time ~ Paint Brush Pocket.. It's a Challenge.

We are half way through this months That's Crafty *A Stitch in Time* Challenge
There's still plenty of time to join in and share your faux or real stitch creations
over on the That's Crafty Challenge blog.

Here's my That's Crafty mid month reminder creation

On to a piece of medium weight wet Calico I traced through the Lana Stencil
and painted with a combination of That's Crafty Multi surface paints.
Facial features and hair filled every inch of the space.

Lost in the whole painting process I think there was definitely an air or
should I say HAIR of the 80's vibe going on here.. Even adding a hint
of shimmer by mixing paint with the sparklers spray.

The Create Stencil was used to paint in the word, outlined with pen then machine stitched
around the edges. Extra stitching is sewn through the hair just to add extra interest.
The panel is then sewn onto the front or the back which ever way you choose to look at it..

This is my paint brush pocket..

Created by folding a double strip of washed calico to produce a pocket leaving a
little extra to create a flap. Stitched around the edges using different coloured threads
and stitches this holds the painted panel on the front side secure.

A button and loop have been hand sewn on to create a closure.

I don't really do measuring, I much prefer to create by eye, making sure the pocket
was big enough to house a handful of paint brushes was all I needed to know
and having one side untouched allows me to use it to dry off or clean my brushes..
It will not stay this clean for long.

This is the front/back of my brush pocket, washed, ironed and housing those brushes.
Perfect for outdoor crafting or whilst on the move.

If you'd like to share your ideas and creations with us there's a prize of £30
up for grabs for one lucky winner to spend in the That's Crafty online Store
and in addition to that a stencil prize for each of the chosen Top 3..

Pop on over and check out what the Design Team have created just for you in the

Wishing you all a wonderful day
Creative Hugs Tracey xx

Dear Tracey, two beautiful stitched creations, simply wonderful with the brushes pocket, on where you can soon start a new art piece, in cleaning your paint brushes outside- I love the idea- and your sewing- And then WOW your lady of stitches, is sooo beautiful, and what great sewing around the letters, and in her hair, giving more texture and interest. I don`t need to say, I admire your fantastic coloration of her , my dear friend.
Hugs, Dorthe xx

Ooooh, just like Astrid, I would buy one of these too - it is gorgeous Tracey. I love the beautiful, serene face, her hair is beautifully reflective. You are much braver than me, I could never clean my brushes on that gorgeous creation (even the plain side!). Love this so much!!! Hugs, Anne xx

A beautiful creation Tracey, and a brilliant idea. A brush purse as beautiful as this would cost a fortune in the shops! Wishing you a very happy weekend. Xx

Thank you very much Dorthe, I usually have a little pocket to keep my brushes in but they tend to get lost amongst the other rags. Having one side with a vivid image helps me to find them easily. Glad you like it xx

Thank you Angela, I'm forever trying to create something with a double use now as it makes creations look less of a clutter and an excuse to keep them hee hee xx

Thank you Yvonne, she is a fabulous stencil living in fear of over use as she is perfect for portraits xx

Astrid you are very kind and sweet, there is something very therapeutic about applying paint on fabric which gives so much more freedom than on stiff canvas. No scrap of fabric is safe when I have my sewing machine out and I'm sure I would make a pocket for everything if i had the fabric readily available heee heee!!
How lovely to think you would purchase one if made available i'm so touched Thank YOU* xx

It's a crazy place to be inside my mind Sue, glad I only have a fraction of the time to put some of those ideas into action hee hee!!
Happy you like it so much but it was created to be used and will wash perfectly when it needs a little freshen up xx

Thank you Anne, Art is meant to be enjoyed and we should not be scared to use it in this way. It is washable as the paints work just like fabric paints especially if you heat fix them for extra security.
Just like Astrid you are most kind to say you would purchase one, one day I will get my Etsy shop up to date and maybe see how it all goes xx
